Mistwood is an enticing blend of romance, intrigue, and paranormal. The world that Cypess created drew me into the novel almost immediately. It is a unique medieval setting which accepts and even relies on the help of magical and paranormal elements. The characters of Mistwood were a bit perplexing. On one hand, I enjoyed the main characters. They were complex and generally interesting. However, many of the secondary characters felt a little wooden and often times too two-dimensional for my liking. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more personality and/or depth to these characters. Many of them were quite fascinating, so I was a little disappointed to see them not used to their full potential. However, Mistwood's shining achievement is its plot. Cypess has taken the Shifter element to a new level. She perfectly combines the magical mystery of the Shifter with the human element. I loved being able to see a new side to a creature that is not very often used. The character of the Shifter is full of complexities and depth. Her emotions are like an open book. Giving the reader a full glimpse into what she is going through: the yearning that she has for her forest, the temptation to act like a human. I was captivated by all the facets of her personality.Mistwood and its mysteries definitely kept me on my toes. Cypess adds in just enough of the right elements to keep a readers attention. And a twist that completely takes you by surprise. I loved every moment of this amazing novel. Highly recommend.
