Matched is everything and more than what I had expected it to be. Now I am not quite exactly sure what I was originally expecting, but whatever it was... Matched more than met it. Condie begins her tale slowly. Building up the world and the characters at the same time. The way that the world is presented is very unique. It is almost like the reader is getting to know it as the main character does. While it was frustrating not having the answers to many of the questions that I sought, it was at the same time very refreshing to know pretty much only what the main character knows. And be able to see this world through new eyes. In addition to the outstanding world that has been created, I must admit that Cassia is one of the most fascinating characters I have seen in a while. And it was thrilling to watch her grow. From a meek girl who is a follower in life to seeing the seeds of rebellion begin to bloom, I loved watching her journey. At the heart of the novel is the choice. Ky or Xander. For me, this was one incredibly hard decision. Both characters, like Cassia, were fantastic. Each had their own little personality differences that throughout the novel pulled me to one side over the other. In the end, I still do not think that I have a clear preference. They are both just too amazing to pick only one.Matched is a brilliant debut by an author who has completely captivated my attention. A dystopian novel that is fresh and utterly mesmerizing. And I cannot wait for the next thrilling installment!
