Mercy

Mercy - Rebecca Lim Short and Sweet: I really did not know what to expect from Mercy. Angels? Powers? Missing girl with a grief stricken brother? Not sure if I am the only one, but wow, that seems like a novel with a lot going on. Which left me wondering, could a novel with all that, really hold up to its promises? The answer for me was a simple no. Mercy does feature angels and a very unique concept for angels. But the concept felt bogged down by the mystery. Yes, the mystery was interesting. I was, at times, on the edge of my seat wanting to know who done it. Yet, throughout all this mystery, my brain kept screaming, what about the angels? It got so bad that I was tempted more than once just to skim through the novel just to find what I was looking for.Final Verdict: I loved, loved the idea behind Lim's Mercy. But there was simply too much going on here. I felt like the focus of the novel needed to be more pointed towards one concept or the other. Yes, I know that if the mystery was the only focus then there would probably not be more to this series. However, the mystery builds so slowly that I often found my thoughts wandering to other things as I waited for the actual premise that made me pick up Mercy in the first place to start. As it is now, I am not too sure if I will pick up the sequel.
